Plastics
By Libby Traubman

In the 1950s a new product was created, so strong and light we were elated.

Tupperware parties became the norm, building our collection of this durable form.

Forget losing lids and troubling misfits, just buy a new set with well matching lids.

Then came Saran Wrap, and bags of all size, storing and keeping household supplies.

Wow! This stuff is amazing, the endless and multiple use is just crazy.

Now its in clothing, and carpets, and bedding, even the bride’s dress for her wedding.

Add astroturf and furniture to the glorious mix, fake flowers and toys are a colorful fix.

But now this all-purpose fantastic invention, is causing the planet sickness and tension.

This Plastic is even in food that we grow, we eat, drink, and breathe it the results we don’t know.

And it’s killing the birds, animals, and fish, some of these even end up in our dish!

The rivers and oceans are taking the brunt of the microplastic that is turning to junk.

So this amazing creation too good to be true, has now turned the tables on both me, and you.

We must commit to start right here, right now, and return to the choices that Life will allow.

Hear Mother Earth, She is begging and pleading, that we awaken today to what she is needing.

It’s now in our hands and the decisions we make, the time is upon us, let there be no mistake.

Say “NO” single use plastic as we recreate and reuse, all in good time we will be making big news.
